Biddy's
Beastly Bloomers
No
underwear here. Biddy's bloomers were actually beastly
living flowers which used to follow her around, causing
mischief and mayhem - or indeed - helping her
to get rid
of irritating folk and nuisances. Given their "living"
status,
one daren't even consider how they pollinated...
Biddy
actually stumbled upon her bloomers in her local
park, on her way back from Bosco Stores with a
heavy bag
of shopping.Silly Biddy took a breather next to
our hungry
plants who nicked a link of sausages from her
bag. The
ensuing tug-of-war ended with Biddy catapaulting
the three
plants up and out of the park. When she got home,
lo and
behold, the bloomers had laned in her back garden
and were
busy munching the bread and seed at her bird table!
Trivia Hounds may note that in her first strip
Biddy wore a
dress patterned with sunflowers. This was soon
changed to
the plain black style, pictured top of page -
presumably
because that first strip was a "test". When
the strip was
greenlighted it obviously made sense to minimise such
fiddly detail...
Still, this is all inconsequential anyway, 'cos
poor Biddy
didn't even make it through the Summer with Shiver
& Shake.
The strip was quite limited in concept so she and her
plants
were one of the strips given the old heave-ho in favour
of Grimly Feendish and Ghouldilocks...
Interesting
to see that the strip bloomed again unexpectedly
in the 1980 Cheeky annual. Sadly, the return lasted
for just
one edition, because the 1981 copy dropped her
in favour
of another Shiver & Shake favourite, Soggy
the
Sea Monster... |
