The Arthurian myth is spun on its head in this manic, madcap series created by
Paul Parkes and Will Ashurst. King Arthur is now a bamboozling, besotted
nobleman on an eternal quest to impress his fair princess Guinevere. But she's
not going to make it easy for him, because she sets him all manner of absurd
and fantastic tasks in order to win her wooing hand, which he undertakes with
the help of his doddery old spellcaster Merlin, and knightly aides, like Sir
Launcelot. Backward flying owls, yodelling dolphins, blood-thirsty squirrels,
an Abominable Snowman, Ronin Hood and nis not-so merry men and women,
and - gadzooks - even Sir Launcelot and his own knights stand in Arthur's way,
in CORNWALL and SCOTLAND, and all sorts of places whose names are
ENUNCIATED by our equally-nutty narrator. And of course, each and every
quest leads Arthur and his cohorts in armour towards incomparable disaster!

"King Arthur's Disasters" takes its crazy castled cue from Monty Python and
Maid Marian, by way of The Big Knights. So we've been here before. And this
series could so easily have become a lazy derivative of those fine productions.
But it doesn't, and it isn't. Not at all. It is, in fact, a hoot. The design is great.
The voices are great. And the disastrous quests greater still. The series sits
comfortably alongside that aforementioned trio of top shows, chuckling in its
armour. Look closer and you'll see the words "cult" and "show" have been
hammered into its barmy breastplate. And fans of the series will tell you that
it all gets even nuttier as we embark upon series two. We find ourselves
springing hither and thither, from one cooky encounter to another.

These frantic Arthurian antics are voiced by comedians Rik Mayall, Matt Lucas,
Morwenna Banks and Phil Cornwell, and they really go to town with their
interpretations. It's clear they're having a ball with the characters, riffing off
each other en route to our screens.

The designers have also had fun, because those cubic cartoon forests are
clearly a riff on the backgrounds for Disney's "Sleeping Beauty", and the
celebrated work of Eyvind Earle. His designs for the film have echoed down
the years, influencing many modern artists, designers, and animators...
