A
DEATHLY COVER
It's awful, isn't it? - The Gnome
thinks the newly-revealed Harry Potter
cover is a rotten creation. This is the
final Potter book, fer crying out loud.
It's called "The Deathly Hallows".
Surely something more atmospheric
was in order. Something dark, deadly and
delicious as Harry reaches his
final destination? Oh, well. At the end
of the day, it's only a cover.
But - oh - what a missed oppurtunity...

WHAT'S
THE SECRET?
The
Black Book of Secrets
is proving a popular read. But
if you're after a collectable edition
you'll need to move quickly.
Signed First Editions seem to be few
and far between, and the
ones we've found so far are going
up and up in price - touching
£20 - £30 or more. Better
get 'em whilst you can...

DARKSIDE
WINS
Tom Becker's Darkside
has just picked up the Waterstone's Children's
Book Prize for 2007. Becker's creepy tale
involves a young lad who
discovers a macabre underworld inhabited by
werewolves and vampires.
Oh, and collectors should note, this winning
tale was published
straight to softback - so you won't
find any hardback editions
out there!...

message her official fan
site,

PRINCE
OF FOOLS
Sebastian
Darke
is here, with his wisetalking Buffalope, midget
warrior and moody Princess in tow.
Big things are expected of
Philip Caveney's creation, and a sequel
is already in the pipeline.
The author has also been busy signing
4000 - yep, that's
four, oh, oh, oh - editions, so keep
your eyes pealed for 'em in
your favourite bookstore very soon...

STONEWALLET
It appears that Charlie Fletcher's
Stoneheart
has been snapped up
by collectors in double-quick time.
The title is already on its fourth printing,
and an injury to the author has prevented
him from embarking on a
promotional tour. That means the few
signed first editions "out there"
are already hitting the £40+
mark on eBay and its ilk. Is the jump in
value a temporary thing? - We'll just
have to wait and see...

STONEHEART
Charlie Fletcher's Stoneheart
is just about to hit UK stores. The story
follows a group of kids who are amazed
to find London's famouse statues
coming to life, and it's a much-anticipated
Autumnal release. Indeed
a film deal with Paramount was secured
before the book was
even published...

SOUL

The third book of "The Chronicles
of Darkness" has just been published
in the UK. Michelle Paver's Soul
Eater
should be on the shelf of your
favourite book stores right about
now...

THE
BOOK GNOME KNOWS...
Well, he probably doesn't, but today
marks the launch of this here
guide to the best in British fantasy
reads, for Big Kids and Little Kids alike.
Okay, so there are only
three reviews to kickstart the site with - but, hey,
a Gnome has to start somewhere!
Now the Gnome's a busy chap. In his
other guise, he's something of a
Hound, and that other site takes up
an awful amount of time. But
slowly, ever so surely, this place
should grow to encompass a whole
range of good reads and a wealth of
good book news. And who knows,
maybe this little place will eventually
rival it's bigger, badder
predecessor...?
