The
Royals artist/creator:
Larry Feign strip
dates: 1998 - 1999
What could be more British than the Royal Family?
The Windsors appear regularly
in many political cartoons here in Blighty, but
it's a jolly foreigner who snatched the
crown and sceptre and turned the day to day shenanigans
of our clown princes
and po-faced Heads of State in to an ongoing cartoon
strip. The gang's all here -
The Queen, Prince Philip, Charles, Andrew, Anne,
etc. - and their precious
world is given a right royal ribbing in this series
of four-panel toons. The strip
serves as a snapshot of the royal era, on the cusp
of the new millennium, with
divorce, succession, the Euro, and Camilla Parker
Bowles very much to the fore...
Cartoonist Larry Feign is American by birth, but
he's spent a protracted period
abroad in Germany, Hong Kong and England. He's probably
best known for his
strip The World
of Lily Wong which documented the final 100 days of British
Rule in Hong Kong. The Royals were drawn whilst
he was residing in the UK,
and he certainly knew how to get inside the minds
of our No.1 Family.
Larry is currently residing in Hong Kong again,
where he is now fully-immersed
in animated waters, producing work for the Walt Disney
TV Intl, Cartoon Network
India, Coca Cola Singapore and more...
