Mr. Happy's going to Specsavers     (12.10.10)

  spacerspacer

  The o
riginal, classic Mr. Men by Roger Hargreaves are currently
starring in a multi-platform advertising campaign for the High Street
opticians "Specsavers". The highlight is a splendid retro tv commercial
in which a befuddled and irritated Mr. Happy makes his way through
Happyland upsetting Mr. Greedy, Mr. Messy, Mr. Tickle and
Mr. Bump, in turn, because - you guessed it - he hasn't gone
to Specsavers. And there it is on YouTube, above, for your
   viewing pleasure...

The campaign was created by Specsavers' in-house creative team,
working with Mr. Men brand owners Chorion. More specifically, that
fab commercial was produced for them by Passion Pictures with
Darren Walsh directing. It really does take us right back to those
Flicks Films originals. That's a very good Arthur Lowe impersonation
on the voiceover too, and if you watch closely, you'll see there are
even a few deliberate retro glitches and effects incorporated into
the film, just for good measure.

If you want more Mr. Men nostalgia, you should hop on over to the
Specsavers website, where Mr. Greedy, Mr. Small and Mr. Clever
guide us through the company's latest deals, in little book form.

Of course, it's not the first time that Specsavers have cashed in on
our fondness for cartoon nostalgia. Witness Postman Pat, rampaging
through Greendale, and Virgil Tracy tackling The Hood in their
   Thunderbirds spoof...
